Rich Haridy on the film blog Why I Adore… discussing the film Irréversible, which I watched for the first time today. I’ve been thinking about watching it for ages, as I love Cassel/Bellucci and from what I’d read about it the film is amazing from a structural and technical perspective. Rich’s blog post was what finally persuaded me to overcome my reticence. As harrowing as the two ultraviolent scenes were, I’m glad I saw it.

The emotional complexity that we, the audience, feel as we balance the physical trauma from earlier in the film with these later scenes of abject beauty is where IRREVERSIBLE begins to soar as a total experience.
